What to Expect

Liturgy

Episcopal services follow a structured liturgy, which includes prayers, readings from the Bible, hymns, and a sermon. The Book of Common Prayer guides the worship, ensuring a consistent experience across Episcopal churches.

Holy Eucharist

The Holy Eucharist, also known as Holy Communion or the Lord’s Supper, is a central part of Episcopal worship. Bread and wine are consecrated and shared among the congregation as a remembrance of Christ’s sacrifice.

Inclusive Community

The Episcopal Church welcomes all people, regardless of age, race, gender, sexual orientation, or background. We believe that God’s love extends to everyone, and we strive to create a diverse and inclusive community.

Participation

Congregants are encouraged to participate actively in the service by singing hymns, reciting prayers, and responding to the readings. Don’t worry if you’re not familiar with the service; you can follow along in the Book of Common Prayer or the service bulletin.

Vestments and Ritual

Episcopal clergy wear traditional vestments, such as robes and stoles, and may use incense, candles, and other sacred objects during the service. These elements serve to enhance the beauty and solemnity of the worship experience.

Music

Music plays a significant role in Episcopal worship, with hymns, anthems, and other sacred music often accompanied by an organ or choir. The music selection may vary depending on the church and the season of the liturgical year.

Episcopal Etiquette

When entering an Episcopal church, it is customary to be respectful and reverent. Many people choose to bow or kneel before the altar, and some may make the sign of the cross at certain points during the service.

General FAQ

What is the Episcopal Church?

The Episcopal Church is a mainline Christian denomination and a member of the worldwide Anglican Communion. We trace our roots to the Church of England and maintain a balance between Protestant and Catholic traditions.

Not at all! We welcome everyone to join us in worship, regardless of their background or beliefs. You don’t need to be a member of the Episcopal Church to attend a service.

Yes, the Episcopal Church affirms and welcomes LGBTQ+ individuals. We believe that all people are created in God’s image and deserve to be treated with love, dignity, and respect.

The Book of Common Prayer is the primary worship resource for the Episcopal Church. It contains the liturgies, prayers, and services used in Episcopal worship.

All baptized Christians, regardless of denomination, are welcome to receive Holy Communion in the Episcopal Church. If you prefer not to receive Communion, you may come forward during the distribution for a blessing, indicated by crossing your arms over your chest.

Don’t worry! You can follow along in the Book of Common Prayer or the service bulletin provided. Feel free to ask a neighbor in the pew for guidance or simply observe and participate as you feel comfortable.

Absolutely! We believe that children are an essential part of our church family. Children are always welcome to stay with their families in the main service, and rather than having a separate nursery, we have a soft space with toys in the sanctuary for small children and parents.

There are many ways to get involved, such as joining a small group, participating in outreach ministries, or volunteering your time and talents. Speak with a clergy member or a church leader to learn more about opportunities to connect and serve.

If you have any additional questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our clergy or church staff. We are here to support you on your spiritual journey and to help you find a home in our church community.

Parking is located on the west side of the building, and you may enter at either the upper or lower doors.
